Canada Pressuring Patients With Euthanasia

Canada Pressuring Patients With Euthanasia

Many Canadians are concerned that the country’s assisted suicide program is increasingly being offered to people who are in no danger of dying.

There was widespread outrage after an 83-year woman seeking medical attention for back pain, was offered euthanasia before she was even diagnosed.

That’s prompted MP Tamara Jansen to cite the case of Miriam Lancaster as proof that Canada needs to stop expanding its euthanasia program.

Miriam’s story went viral on social media after she told how she woke up with back pain and went to the hospital.

Before testing her or diagnosing her condition, hospital staff immediately offered to help her kill herself.

DOCTOR: “WE’D LIKE TO OFFER YOU DEATH”

“I was approached by a lady doctor and the first words out of her mouth were: ‘We’d like to offer you MAiD,’” Miriam recalled.

MAiD stands for Medical Assistance in Dying.

Miriam was in a lot of pain, but was strong enough to forcefully reject the offer and demand the treatment she needed.

She has since recovered and attended her daughter’s wedding, gone traveling, and ridden a horse — all within a year of being offered death.

PRIEST WITH BROKEN HIP OFFERED DEATH

A Catholic priest who broke his hip was told by medical professionals at Vancouver General Hospital that he might want to consider assisted suicide, despite not being diagnosed as terminally ill.

The B.C. Catholic reported Father Larry Holland advised hospital staff that he is opposed to euthanasia, but was still told on at least three separate occasions, that he had the option of assisted suicide if his condition got worse.

He repeatedly replied: “No Thanks.”

WOMAN EUTHANISED AGAINST HER WILL

A woman in her 80s who went to an Ontario hospital was allegedly euthanised against her will.

‘Mrs. B’ had recently undergone coronary artery bypass surgery and initially requested euthanasia.

But the next day she told an assessor she had changed her mind and instead wanted palliative care due to her personal and religious beliefs.

But after her doctor applied for in-patient hospice care, two assessors agreed she was eligible for MAiD and she was euthanised within hours.

TALK SHOW HOST INTERVENES TO HELP WOMAN WITH RARE CONIDTION

Jolene Van Alstine, a 45-year-old from Saskatchewan suffered from a rare, but treatable parathyroid disease that causes intense bone pain, nausea, and vomiting.

After the Canadian health system, its politicians and bureaucrats all failed her and offered MAiD, US talk show host Glenn Beck raised her case and offered to pay for any treatment.

Medical experts responded with relatively simple treatment that seemed to be helping, but there has been no public update for months.

VETERAN AFFAIRS DEPT TRIES TO SAVE ON A CHAIRLIFT BY OFFERING DEATH

Paraplegic military veteran Retired Army Corporal Christine Gauthier was offered euthanasia after years of requests to have a chairlift installed at her home.

The outraged Rio Paralympian testified to the Canadian Parliament in December that a Veterans Affairs case worker told her the department could offer her a medically assisted death.

A woman who went to a Vancouver hospital seeking psychiatric treatment was shocked to be given the option of assisted suicide.

A doctor told 37-year-old Kathrin Mentler there were no beds in the hospital and that she could wait months to see a psychiatrist because “the health system is broken”,

She was offered MAiD even though it was illegal for patients with mental illness as their only medical condition.

“WHEN PEOPLE REACH OUT FOR HELP, THEY DESERVE CARE, NOT DEATH”

Tamara Jansen, a British Columbia-based federal MP, questioned: “If someone with a treatable condition can be presented with assisted death so early in their care, what happens when MAiD is expanded to include people who are struggling with mental illness?”

“When someone reaches out for help — especially at a vulnerable moment — they deserve care, support, and a path forward.”

“We should always be a country that stands for hope, recovery, and protecting those who are most vulnerable,” she asserted.

MP’S BILL SEEKS TO STOP EXPANSION OF EUTHANASIA PROGRAM

Ms. Jansen, who is known for advocating for the elderly and disabled, has introduced a bill to halt the expansion of the MAiD program.

She warns: “In 2027, Canada is set to expand MAiD to what many are now calling psychiatric euthanasia — for people with mental illness alone.”

“That includes conditions like anxiety, depression, PTSD.”

“And yet, there is still no clear definition of ‘treatment resistance’ and no requirement to exhaust all treatment options first.”

“Canadians are asking a simple question: Are we offering death before we offer care?”

Franklin Graham’s Historic Outreach In Belarus

Franklin Graham’s Historic Outreach In Belarus

Evangelist Franklin Graham says “God did a miracle” in the hardline Communist country of Belarus at the weekend after he was allowed to hold what organisers described as the largest evangelical Christian gathering in the nation’s modern history.

As well as preaching the Gospel to more than 30,000 people over two nights, Reverend Graham broke down barriers and talked for two hours with authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko who has been in power for 31 years.

The Festival of Hope rally was organised by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) with the help of nearly 700 churches from across Belarus.

Additional crowds surrounded the Chizhovka Arena in the capital Minsk after arriving “on buses, trains, and cars from every part of the country.”

“WE SAW GOD ANSWER PRAYERS AND MOVE IN MIGHTY WAY”

Hundreds of participants responded to Reverend Graham’s invitation to “turn from their sins and put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ.”

Referring to Romans 6:23, the American evangelist reminded the crowd that “the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

He also recounted the story of a man who reportedly planned to end his life earlier in the week, but later attended the rally and “found true hope” through faith in Christ.

“For the past week, Christians across this country have been praying 24 hours a day, and tonight we saw God answer those prayers and move in a mighty way,” Reverend Graham stressed.

“WE ARE AMAZED AT WHAT GOD IS DOING HERE”

Organisers BGEA said local Christians used words likeHistoric”, “Unprecedented” and “Almost inconceivable” to describe the outreach.

“What is happening now. This is the act of God,” said Vasily Gherasimciuc, director of the Festival.

“We are amazed at what God is doing here.”

Leonid Mikhovich, the Bishop of the Baptist Association in Belarus, felt a little like Thomas in the Bible.

He wouldn’t believe the event was happening until he saw the stage and touched the chairs.

When he walked into the arena, it finally sank in. An event years in the making was finally coming true.

HOW THE OUTREACH DRAMATICALLY CHANGED ONE WOMAN’S LIFE

Reporter Maggie Fipps wrote about a woman named Elena for BGEA.

For Elena, the event was also years in the making, although she didn’t know it when she walked from her apartment to the arena.

From kindergarten on, she and her best friend Anna had been inseparable, moving from Russia to Belarus, and are even housemates today.

Anna often shared her deep faith in Jesus Christ with Elena, but it never sank in until Franklin Graham spoke to the crowd.

“Maybe you’re here tonight and you’re saying: There’s something missing in my life,’” he said

“You have a vacuum, an emptiness that can only be filled by God.”

FRANKLIN GRAHAM CLARIFIES WHAT PEOPLE LIKE ELENA ARE MISSING

Elena couldn’t argue with that. In every area of her life, she felt she just missed the mark.

From problems at her job to a broken relationship with her daughter, she simply felt loneliness.

“I tried everything, I went to many, many different churches. I was seeking,” Elena confessed.

What she didn’t realise is what she needed was a relationship with her Heavenly Father.

ELENA HEARS GOD’S CALLING CLEARLY

“He will put His arms around you tonight. He’ll forgive you,” Reverend Graham assured the crowd.

For Elena, feeling broken and inadequate, that was exactly what she needed to hear.

When Franklin Graham invited the crowd to come down to the front of the stage to pray and accept Jesus as their Saviour, Elena only had to walk a few steps.

She was seated in the deaf section near the front.

A prayer counsellor walked her through the steps of salvation in Russian Sign Language.

“ALL THIS DARKNESS, IT’S FLED AWAY”

“When I prayed, I knew that God is going to lead me,” Elena said with a wide smile.

“All of this darkness, somehow it’s fled away.”

Anna and Elena laughed together, knowing how their friendship has changed; they’re now sisters in Christ.

From the outside, Anna’s invitation to Elena seemed like just a simple question.

But Christians in Belarus had been preparing for this opportunity for months, and they had been praying around the clock for the event.

They even featured an extraordinary 1,300-member choir representing 43 cities and villages, accompanied by a symphony orchestra and local artists.

FESTIVAL DIRECTOR REMINDED OF WHEN HE HEARD BILLY GRAHAM PREACH IN MOSCOW

Festival Director Gherasimciuc said the event also encouraged the Belarusian church, as believers saw God answering many of their prayers.

It reminded him of an event just over 30 years ago, when trains packed full of people from Minsk traveled 650 kilometres to hear Franklin Graham’s father, Billy Graham, speak in Moscow

“I would say that the situation is about the same.”

“It was just after the breakup of the Soviet Union. People were hungry for the Gospel message,” Mr. Gherasimciuc remembers.

“The last 15 years, there was nothing massive, no mass evangelistic event. This is an event that has stirred Christians.”

WHAT THE EVANGELIST AND THE COMMUNIST LEADER TALKED ABOUT

Franklin Graham was warmly received by President Lukashenko, who has faced repeated Western sanctions over human rights abuses and his alliance with Russia during the war in Ukraine.

The president asked Reverend Graham to convey his “warm greetings” to President Trump and remarked that Belarus had “reliable friends and supporters” in America.

The evangelist even suggested Lukashenko and Trump “could become friends” if they met personally — adding that both leaders were “honest” and “straightforward.”

“The important thing is that they can meet and talk, get to know one another,” Franklin Graham argued, even suggesting Lukashenko invite Trump to Minsk for a round of golf.

PRESIDENT RECALLED HOW “EVERYONE PRAYED” IN THE SOVIET UNION

Reverend Graham thanked President Lukashenko for permitting evangelical churches to hold the Festival.

The president who grew up under Soviet-era atheism, told the American preacher he had personal familiarity with Protestant Christians from his time as a collective farm administrator.

“The Soviet Union was officially an atheist country, but unofficially, everyone prayed,” he said.

He revealed roughly half the workers on the farm where he served were Protestants.

“They are exceptionally kind and incredibly hardworking people.”

“WHEN YOU’RE TALKING WITH THE LORD ABOUT SINS, DON’T FORGET ABOUT MINE!”

The Belarusian president also acknowledged receiving humanitarian aid through U-S-based organisations.

According to BGEA, two-thirds of humanitarian aid Belarus received last year came from the United States, including from Samaritan’s Purse, which Franklin Graham leads as president and CEO.

Before the meeting ended, President Lukashenko made a lighthearted remark as the Reverend offered to pray for him:

“Franklin, when you’re talking with the Lord about sins, don’t forget about mine either,” he said.

FESTIVAL MARKED A DRAMATIC SHIFT FROM YEARS OF CRACKDOWNS ON CHRISTIANS

The evangelical gathering marked a dramatic shift after years of crackdowns by Belarusian authorities on evangelical, Catholic, and other clergy following the disputed 2020 presidential election.

In Belarus, a nation of about 9.5 million people, roughly 80% of the population identifies as Orthodox Christian, while Protestants — including evangelical believers — make up about 2%.

The Tragedy Of Pakistani Christian Girls

The Tragedy Of Pakistani Christian Girls

FROM INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN CONCERN

Each year in Pakistan, roughly 1,000 young girls — many of whom are Christians — are kidnapped from their homes.

These girls are often found months later, after they’ve been forced to convert to Islam and marry older Muslim men.

When a girl’s parents attempt to claim their daughter in court, they are often unable to provide a birth certificate to prove that she is underage, or their papers are rejected by the courts.

As a result, the judge often grants the man custody of the girl, denying the parents any chance of seeing their daughter again.

INCREASING NUMBERS OF ABDUCTED CHRISTIAN GIRLS

While this reality is nothing new in Pakistan, stories of girls in these situations are increasingly coming to light.

International Christian Concern (ICC) is helping Christian girls and their families escape these scenarios, providing safe shelter, legal support, and the care they need to break the cycle.

Below are the stories of five Christian girls whose lives have been upended and threatened because of their society’s acceptance of child brides.

Adan Sabir - ICC

Adan Sabir – ICC

ADAN SABIR

After Adan Sabir rejected his marriage proposal, Usman Ali kidnapped her at gunpoint in July 2025.

When her parents challenged him in court, Ali presented a forged marriage certificate, claiming Adan had converted to Islam and married him of her own free will.

Although the judge allowed Ali to take her home, Adan’s family continued fighting.

They appealed to the Lahore High Court in September 2025.

ADAN HAS RETURNED HOME, BUT HER KIDNAPPER CONTINUES TO STALK HER

After examining evidence of threats and coercion, the court ordered Ali to return Adan to her family.

Earlier this year, she got engaged to a Christian man.

When Ali learned of her engagement, he fired gunshots at her family’s home on April 20.

ADAN’S FAMILY IS FORCED TO LIVE ON THE RUN

Since then, her family has moved from place to place every few days to survive.

“Adan stays silent all day, and at night she wakes up trembling and asks us to pray,” her mother revealed.

“Usman keeps threatening us, saying that if he took her once, he can take her again, and this time he won’t let her escape.”

Maira Shahbaz - ICC

Maira Shahbaz – ICC

MAIRA SHAHBAZ

In July 2025, Maira Shahbaz was kidnapped from her home, forced to convert to Islam, and married against her will.

After her parents fought tirelessly to bring her back, a judge ruled against them.

On March 25, Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court declared that Maira was of “mature age” and could legally remain with the 40-year-old man accused of abducting her.

JUDGES RULED MAIRA’S AGE DOCUMENTS ‘UNRELIABLE”

The court validated her conversion and ruled that the marriage was governed by Islamic law.

Maira’s father told the court she was about 13 years old at the time of her abduction and presented documents to prove it.

The judge deemed the records unreliable, saying her appearance suggested she was older.

In another recent case two Constitutional Court judges ordered Sonia Tariq to be placed in a government shelter, while medical tests are carried out to determine her age.

Farah Shaheen - ICC

Farah Shaheen – Lala Robin Daniel/UCA

FARAH SHAHEEN

Six months after 12-year-old Farah Shaheen was taken from her Christian family in Faisalabad, Pakistan, authorities found her chained and confined to a cattle pen at the home of a 45-year-old Muslim man.

The man, Khizar Ahmad Ali, had forced her to convert to Islam and marry him against her will.

When authorities found her in December 2020, Farah had bruises and other marks on her body.

GIRL’S ANKLES AND FEET WERE WOUNDED. SHE WAS IN TRAUMA

“Her ankles and feet were wounded,” Lala Robin Daniel, a local activist, told the Union of Catholic Asian News (UCAN).

“They were bandaged at the police station. She was in trauma and couldn’t talk about the torture.”

Farah later testified in court, likely out of fear, that she had converted to Islam and married Ali of her own free will.

Her parents feared the court would grant Ali custody of their daughter.

In February 2021, following an eight-month legal battle, a court ordered that she was to be returned to her family.

Huma Younos - ICC

Huma Younus – Aid to the Church in Need

HUMA YOUNUS

In October 2019, then-14-year-old Huma Younus was abducted from her home in Karachi while her parents were away.

She was forced to convert to Islam and coerced into marrying her captor, Abdul Jabbar.

Despite her family’s desperate attempts to seek justice, the courts disregarded her suffering.

COURT IGNORES PARENTS’ RECORDS THAT HUMA WAS ONLY 14

Huma’s parents, devout Christians, filed a police report challenging the legitimacy of her abduction, forced conversion, and marriage.

They presented school and baptismal records proving that she was only 14 years old at the time, far below the legal age for marriage under Pakistani law.

ICC hosted a #JusticeforHuma petition that garnered more than 3,000 signatures, calling on Pakistan to return Younus home to her parents.

Despite the outcry, the Sindh High Court shockingly ruled that her marriage was valid under Sharia Law.

Laiba Masih - ICC

Laiba Masih – ICC

LAIBA MASIH

Laiba Masih, a 10-year-old girl from Faisalabad, was abducted by a 40-year-old man practicing polygamy with three wives.

Eventually, he gave her to another man named Shoukat Shah.

Laiba’s parents tirelessly searched for her and eventually found her with Shah.

They approached him and asked him to return their daughter.

MOTHER: “WE WEPT UNCONTROLLABLY”

Shah declined, arguing that he had converted Laiba to Islam; therefore, she could not be returned to her Christian parents.

Christian activists publicly expressed their dismay and assisted the family in filing a complaint against Shah.

While they were able to prove that Laiba was underage, the girl insisted in 2024 that she would remain with her Muslim husband.

“We wept uncontrollably,” Laiba’s mother told the British Asian Christian Association.

“There are no words to describe the agony. It was as if we had been told our daughter had been violated and murdered.”

International Christian Concern is calling on Christians to stand with the ICC as it helps the girls escape and provides the support they need.
