Fifty years after the Khmer Rouge regime began its reign of terror in Cambodia, the Southeast Asian nation is witnessing a powerful symbol of restoration as thousands are being baptised in mass water baptisms.

One was organised the Great Harvest ministry in partnership with local believers.

It claims it was the largest mass single baptism event ever to take place in Cambodia.

For over one hour, more than 30 rows of baptism lines at a popular beach in Kep District on the Gulf of Thailand were filled with new believers.

In total more than 1,500 gave their lives to Christ. — 963 adults and the rest children.

NEW CHRISTIANS CAME FROM SCORES OF RECENT CHURCH PLANTS

Most came from 80 new churches which have been planted in Cambodia in recent months.

Local evangelists and church planters had been trained by evangelist Dario Giustino and his teams from Great Harvest.

Over 40 entire families — husbands wives, and children were baptised together.

Many of them had only recently heard about Jesus for the very first time.

The majority were young men and women surrendering their lives to Christ publicly.

“THE SPIRIT OF JOY AND CELEBRATION IN THE WATERS”

Dario Giustino posted on social media: “The Spirit of joy and celebration broke out in the waters.”

“Young men were doing backflips, young women were swimming and splashing, children were running and laughing.”

“I have never seen shy Cambodians so free, so unhinged, so full of joy and laughter in Jesus.”

“All of this happened exactly at the 50th anniversary of the Khmer Rouge — the darkest genocide in world history.”

“But now, in the very same land, God is having lasting fruit.”

‘WE ARE SEEING A HARVEST BEYOND WORDS”

“Out of the 80+ new churches planted during this revival already, we are seeing a harvest beyond words.”

“We give glory to God and we keep pushing forward so that He will receive His full reward!”

“This is pure joy and celebration in a region that was once only 0.1% Christian and has not been a hotspot for Christianity.”

“Today 21 people from my church that I planted in June came for the baptism,” said Huot Nath, a young village evangelist under Great Harvest’s program.

Among the hundreds baptised, Sok Reksa shared: “I am very happy. I consider 1 October 2025 as my new birth in faith.”

“ON THE PATH TO REVIVAL IN CAMBODIA”

Great Harvest and the local Christian Fellowship Committee believe Cambodia is well along the path to revival, claiming nearly 3,000 decisions for Christ during its recent church planting and crusades.

At the same time, more than 1,000 followers of the Seventh Day Adventist Church were baptised at multiple sites across the country, in what the church claims is one of its largest reaping events in Cambodia.

Although evangelical missionaries arrived in the country more than 100 years ago, it is only in recent years that there has been significantly less persecution.

The former Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, opened the Cambodia Gospel Centennial Celebration two years ago to mark that arrival.

More than 30,000 local believers attended the event.
