An animated spin-off for kids of the hugely popular Christian TV series The Chosen is set to be available for streaming by the end of the year.

The Chosen Adventures follows nine-year-old Abby and her best friend Joshua as they navigate life in the Biblical town of Capernaum.

They encounter Jesus who helps change the way they see the world.

Prime Video plans to make 14 episodes, each one around 11 minutes long.

SPIN-OFF FOLLOWS SUCCESS OF ‘THE CHOSEN’ EPISODE WHERE JESUS MEETS KIDS

Abby was a character introduced in Season One of the live-action series.

She and Joshua felt no one could satisfy their curiosity until they crossed paths with Jesus.

An episode showing Jesus with children resonated so deeply with viewers that producers decided to make the animated series.

The creator of The Chosen Dallas Jenkins said: “When we started to realise that there was an opportunity to do an animated show, we wanted to explore these stories even more from the perspective of children.”

ANIMATED SERIES IS MORE THAN JUST A RETELLING OF ‘THE CHOSEN’

He thought the children who appeared in the live-action series were a “perfect” fit.

In the animated series, Jesus helps the children change their perspective on the world, and they help spread His influence far and wide.

“It’s not merely a retelling of The Chosen, it’s the random things that kids at that time would’ve gone through, with a whimsical tone,” explained Dallas Jenkins.

SERIES SEEKS TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT FAITH AND JESUS

The actor who plays Jesus in The Chosen, Jonathan Roumie, said the children’s series “will explore their lives and their questions about what it means to have faith and who Jesus was.”

“It will examine what impact His teachings have on their lives in a way that is done from a kid’s perspective.”

“Adults will still get so much out of it, but kids will love to see their perspective and their attitudes and the questions they may have.

“Their curiosity is reflected in this show.”

The series also features a talking sheep.
